Start a League

STARTING A LEAGUE: NEXT STEPS

STEP 1

Determine the types of futsal league you would like to operate.

You should decide the range of age groups of leagues you want to start and determine the skill level of the players you are targeting.

STEP 2

Find a location

You will need a location to host your games and practices. Look for a suitable field or facility that meets your needs and can accommodate the number of teams you plan to have in your league. U.S. Futsal provides gaming opportunities on almost any flat surface. You can operate traditional Futsal in a gymnasium or on a hard surface. You could also create a Futsal 5 V 5 program on grass or turf.

STEP 3

Recruit teams

Once you have a location, you'll need to recruit teams to participate in your league. Reach out to local clubs, schools, and organizations to generate interest and build a team roster. Players participating in any soccer program are potential Futsal players.

STEP 4

Define league rules

Refer to U.S. Futsal for rules and guidelines for your league, Consider your approach to player eligibility, game schedules, and bracketing. Make sure the rules are clearly communicated to all teams.

STEP 5

Obtain necessary permits and upload your insurance information

Depending on your location and the type of league, you may need permits and insurance to operate. Check with your local government or sports governing body to ensure you are in compliance with any regulations. Facility Certificates of Insurance can be obtained through GotSport.

STEP 6

Plan for referees

Create a plan for officiating your games. You will need to choose between a 1 or 2 referee system. Current referees, coaches and high school aged players are great candidates.

STEP 7

Promote your league

Spread the word about your league to attract players and fans. Use social media, local media outlets, and other marketing channels to promote your league and generate excitement. U.S. Futsal Southwest can assist with content creation.

STEP 8

Plan for logistics

Once your league is underway, you will need to manage game schedules, referee assignments, and other logistics. Consider using a league management software or service to help streamline these tasks.

Starting a soccer league requires dedication, hard work, and attention to detail. With careful planning and organization, you can create a successful and thriving league that brings people together through the love of the game.
